One of the main
themes I explore in my upcoming series AIDS in New York: Then& Now
is the stigma that still plagues gay men and how that stigma continues to
corrode our society. A prime and disturbing
example of that stigma is the FDA’s ban on gay men donating blood. I can’t believe this archaic law still exists. Implemented in 1983 during the onset of the
virus with little to no knowledge is one thing, but today in 2013 with technological
advances to test and even clean blood is just unacceptable. Please read this
article by Campbell, California Mayor Evan Low and sign the petition. The only way change happens is if we the people
keep pressure on our policy makers. We put them in office and we can impose
change!
